Labor Support - Birth Comadre

Labor support aka Doula work seen in traditional communities as a Birth CoMadre, One with a laboring mother. As Indigenous People we all have a connection with a supportive relative who knows about supportive birthing and helps guide us through. Whether it’s a sister, auntie, mother, friend, cousin or someone else we feel safe being vulnerable with, that person becomes our Birth CoMadre. Whether it’s a “natural” birth, Vaginal birth with medical induction, planned C-Section, loss or the many other variations of birthing. Given wider understandings that a laboring person may not identify as a “mother” we can still reclaim the sacred beautiful connection of having a supportive person through labor. Being a CoMadre also provides support to the partner of the laboring person. Sometimes a partner will wonder what their role is if they hire a doula, and as labor support I remind folx that I am there to support all people the laboring person chooses to have in their birthing space. Support can look like processing labor concerns, emotions, fears and expectations, medical interventions for all birthing spaces, relaxation techniques, empowerment in labor, spirit centered laboring, mindfulness in labor options and MANY other topics. I’ve been honored to be around countless births in hospital, home and birth center spaces for the past 12+ years.

Postpartum Support

Rebozo work to stretch and realign the body, also known as a Cerrada, is a traditionally Mexican closing ceremony honoring the process and journey of pregnancy, birth and/or release. Gentle abdonimal massage as taught by Traditional Mayan Healers. Birth Processing: Many times people walk away from their birth with questions or “holes” in their memory of events, not understanding or knowing medical interventions and the reasons behind them, as well as the chain of events. If I am hired as Labor Support/Doula this is included if the client chooses, if not we can process as much information we have available to us. These are postpartum service options and are individually selected.
